Grant Award Ceremony

The State of Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy (ODCP) has requested we give them a date to hold the Inhalant and Underage Drinking Grant award ceremony.

We plan to hold a High School assembly in conjunction with the ceremony and the week of May 7 – 11 has been approved by High School.  We also plan on inviting the Middle School Champions Club to the ceremony.  We also plan a short skit, hopefully a showing of the inhalant commercial (providing we can find the equipment to project commercial onto large screen) and requisite speeches.  The assembly will not be longer than 30 minutes.  We plan to have the presentation to the LCHS and LCMS Champions members.

ODCP has requested a specific date to get the date on the Director’s calendar as she wants to attend.  They will also issue a request to First Lady of Kentucky for attendance.  I am guessing that Monday and Friday would not be good.

Research and Development

Thirty-five (35) students in Ms. Robin Hurst class have completed research and development of drug abuse prevention pamphlets.  After final review and completion many of the pamphlets will be printed and distributed in display cases around Lyon County.  The project demonstrates the talent of Lyon County youth.  It also involves youth in investigating drug abuse and being a part of youth drug abuse prevention.  Funding for the project is provided by Lyon County Champions Coalition with a goal of producing new pamphlets each year.

Lyon County Champions has raised $9,600 for a year long local media campaign and pre and post campaign survey to determine impact of campaign. We are seeking additional funds to enhance the media campaign.
